Understanding more about the process

    • Cost & Time Effective: Mediation is typically quicker and a lot more affordable than going to court.

    • Empowered Decision-Making: You keep control over the decision making and can craft solutions that best fit your family’s circumstances.

    • Stronger Parenting Relationships: Prioritizing your children’s wellbeing by fostering cooperation and constructive co-parenting.

  • Parenting arrangements are the practical arrangements that separated parents make about how they will raise their children. These include things like:

    • where your children will live

    • how time will be shared

    • schooling, health care, holidays and other day-to-day matters.

Each family is different. We will work with you to create arrangements that suit your children's needs and your family’s unique circumstances, both today and into the future.

If you reach an agreement, we will help you document it in the form of a Parenting Plan. This is a written record of your parenting arrangements - clear, practical and child-focussed.

If you choose, your Parenting Plan can later be formalised with the help of your lawyer into Consent Orders.

  • Sometimes an agreement is not possible or mediation may not be appropriate. Before applying to the Court for parenting orders, you will in most cases need what is called a Section 60I certificate.

This certificate is a legal requirement in most parenting matters and shows that you have attempted Family Dispute Resolution (Family Mediation) or that it was not appropriate in your situation.

Only an accredited Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner can issue a S60I certificate. All our practitioners are fully accredited and authorised to provide these certificates.

Certificates are issued following a careful assessment of your situation, including any safety concerns and whether mediation is appropriate for your unique circumstances.

  • Property mediation helps separating couples work through the practical and financial aspects of separation.

Every couple’s financial story is different. We provide a structured, neutral space to help you navigate decisions and reach workable agreements. We support you in:

    • Gathering information about your financial situation

    • Identifying what needs to be divided

    • Exploring settlement options

    • Working towards agreements that feel fair and workable

Our mediators guide the process to keep things focused, respectful and productive — even if things feel uncertain at the start.

If you come to an agreement, we can prepare a summary document known as a Heads of Agreement — a clear record of what’s been agreed. This can be formalised by your lawyer into Consent Orders (filed with the Family Court), or a Binding Financial Agreement (a private legal contract).

You don’t need to have everything worked out before you come to mediation. In fact, mediation can be a helpful first step before legal advice, or alongside it.

We always encourage you to get independent legal and financial advice at any stage of the process. We work collaboratively with legal professionals to support you in making informed decisions and to help ensure the safety and clarity of your financial future.

  • As an integral part of the mediation process, we provide you with resources and connect you with a network of trusted professionals, including lawyers, counsellors, and financial advisors. This collaborative approach ensures you have the necessary guidance and information to make informed decisions about your future.
